Conference Chair

Dr Heidi Wechtler

Heidi is a Senior Lecturer in Management and Deputy Head of School Research Training at Newcastle Business School. She researches the experience of workers in global and disrupted labour markets. The key research problem she addressed is how workers navigate identity, leadership, and systemic uncertainty, and how these conditions shape well-being, inclusion, and innovation. Her expertise combines advanced quantitative, qualitative methods, and cross-cultural research, a strong record of A/ A*/FT50 publications, supported by international collaborations across Europe and Australia. . Her research aligns with Australia’s research priorities on resilient communities and economic growth by advancing decent work, reducing inequalities, and fostering innovative, sustainable labour practices.

Doctoral Representative

Ruilin Lyu

Ruilin is a PhD candidate in management at Newcastle Business School. Her research examines how Green Human Resource Management practices and leadership, particularly responsible leadership, jointly shape employees’ environmental citizenship and organizational green performance. A core contribution is a cross-cultural comparative lens: using multi-country survey designs, she analyses how cultural contexts (Australia vs China) condition the mechanisms and effect sizes linking GHRM and leadership to these outcomes. Ruilin has presented her work at the ANZAM Conference 2024 in Wollongong and the Academy of International Business (AIB) 2025 conference in Louisville. She is also a Three Minute Thesis prize third-place winner.

Local UoN student artist: Ishpreet Kaur

Ishpreet Kau is from New Delhi, India, and currently studying a Bachelor of Business Analytics at the University of Newcastle. She has been passionate about art since 2014, when she first started sketching and painting in school. Over the years, it has grown from a hobby into something that truly defines who she is. She loves studying Business Analytics and art equally — both let me think creatively, solve problems, and express ideas in different ways.

Her work is inspired by emotions, people, and everyday moments that often go unnoticed. She loves exploring and creating paintings, portraits, sketches, and murals — anything that allows me to express feelings and tell stories through colour and imagination. She enjoys experimenting with new techniques and styles, always trying to capture the connection between art and human emotion. Moving from India to Australia has also influenced my art in new ways. Living in Newcastle has given me a fresh perspective on culture, people, and creative spaces. She has worked on a few sketches and painting projects here, and she continues to grow as an artist while studying and taking commissions.

Art is not just a form of expression — it’s a way to connect, communicate, and bring warmth into spaces and communities. She really wanted to do something meaningful for the university, and when she saw the NUSpace building, she instantly felt inspired to paint it. She wanted to bring it to life through my hands and gift it to the Newcastle Business School as a token of gratitude and connection.
